To: mulinux@sunsite.auc.dk From: Alfred Breull 0. When you have no ZIP drive and no internet connection you need to copy all necessary mulinux files with floppies from i.e. your workstation to your notebook in 1.44 packages. At the workstation: I copied all mulinux files into a fresh directory and used the DOS version of arj in a DOS box with the command: arj a mulin -v1440 (and 'yes' to the creation of all new archives) This creates the necessary 1.44 KB packages that can be copied into fresh directory of the notebook. Uncompression is by: arj x mulin.arj -v1440 (and 'yes' to the creation of all new archives) 1. In MS-DOS: copy mulinux*.tgz and dostools.zip to c:\mulinux 2. unzip dostools.zip 3. edit install.bat and delete the text 'vga=extended'. save and quit install.bat Note: if you do not delete the text 'vga=extended' you will have 50 lines on your screen instead of 24 and linux will run into a segmentation fault in VNC (although not installed) at the 1st or 2nd boot of linux. (5 times tested ) 4. run install.bat 5. When asked 'your choice (1/2/3) [1]?' write '2' Note: all partitions are recognized correctly, also primary and extended partitions ! 6. CR (return/ enter) on the defaults [/dev/hda1] and [mulinux]. 7. Reboot (hit 'ENTER) when asked for 8. After rebooting goto C:\LINUX 9. Edit loadlin.cfg and add 'floppy=thinkpad' as a _new line_ right after the line 'ramdisk_size=4600'. So, loadlin.cfg looks this way: startup\boot\mulinuz root=/dev/hda1 rw # kernel parameters no387 vga=normal ramdisk_size=4600 floppy=thinkpad # ZIP aha152x=0x140,10,7,1 max_scsi_luns=1 #ether=10,0x280,0xc8000,0xcbfff,eth0 #sound=0x0TTPPPID 10. Save and exit. 11. Run linux.bat, select keyboard when asked. I set all other parameters to n (=default) and mulinux is humming :) 12. Enjoy ! :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: mulinux-unsubscribe@sunsite.auc.dk For additional commands, e-mail: mulinux-help@sunsite.auc.dk
