Constant Shuffling here at quix.us I decided to stick with Caddy as the web server and reverse proxy. And since I can't get other mail servers to play with Synchronet, I put Citadel-UX on the Pi to handle such things with a bit of BBSing sprinked in (the text client is being served through telnet, but I am the only person with an account to use it, so I will likely do something like Perl MUD through telnet instead). I have also rigged the static quix.us website and the pygopherd web interface to present http rather than https (just changed that now) so that older clients can get to them. There is no security problem with doing this as the servers don't exchange passwords or anything like that.
