February 3, 2013 Dear Mama, I wanted to thank you for sending me the story of your conversion. It is much appreciated, and will be cherished. It was a pretty busy week as usual. Monday was the usual dropping the boys off to school, going to the gym, doing the grocery shopping, dishes, cooking, etc... I was supposed to go to the bank and completely forgot. The boys didn't stay for basketball practice because it had started to snow around 3:00 and so I needed to get them around 4:00. By then, the snow was heavy and the wind was blowing about 50mph and visibility was maybe 50 yards at best. Trying to get on the interstate was crazy because I couldn't see anything to yield into the traffic. I was nearly run over by a semi, but I managed to pick up enough speed, fighting the winds, to get ahead. By the time we all got back to Tucumcari it had already snowed over an inch. Tuesday, the roads were clear and we checked for a text saying whether there was school, or not, or a two hour delay. Nothing was there, so took the boys to the bus stop only to arrive and no cars were there. And as we were heading back home the radio announced that San Jon had a two hour delay (which was silly because the roads were clear and dry). So I took the guys home and went back two hours later. On my way home from dropping them off I actually remembered the bank and went to take care of business there. It also happened to be the birthday of one of the inactive sisters that I visit teach. So, I spent part of my day baking a cake for her. Jay home teaches her and he had asked me to wait until he got home so he could come with me to deliver it. I did so and we went to her work because that was the last time we were able to actually make contact. (They do not answer the door if we go to their home). No one was there. Jay decided to try her house and just leave the cake on her doorstep if they wouldn't open the door. I decided I needed to run home and get a note to go with the cake because then she would know who it was from. We did that and then drove to her house and as we drove up, her husband was just leaving for his night shift at work and she was standing in the doorway. Wow! We were there and the door was open! She had to let us in, and we said "Happy Birthday"! And she looked confused and said, "It's not my birthday". We don't know how that happened. It was the right day, wrong month. Personally, I think Heavenly Father arranged it all to get us in her door and make contact. It was a nice visit and hopefully she will be more apt to let us in again the next time. Wednesday, I took another trip to Clovis to get my glasses. The reading glasses were great, the distance glasses were not so great. I walked around WalMart for about ten minutes and got a headache and still couldn't see very well. In my old progressive glasses, I can look up, down, and through my peripheral vision and there is no blurriness. With these new ones, there was blurriness in the peripheral vision whether it was in the distance or trying to read something. It was horrible. I brought them back. I know I probably sounded like a whiner, but I have to live with these glasses! I upgraded to a different lens, and let's hope that will solve the problem. I also made an appointment for Brenna because she had put on my glasses just for the fun of it. Even though the reading part was blurry, she discovered that she could read the titles of the books on the bookshelf across the room in the distant part and taking off the glasses, she couldn't make the titles out. We should get my glasses on the day that I bring her in for her appointment. Thursday, Jay was out of town, working, again. Cancelled Young Men's, again. And, of course, Josh had a basketball game out of town. It was against Mosquero, and he called about 10:30 that night to come and get him. I was so tired, but managed to do so and stay awake at the same time. They not only won their game, 75 to 24 (Mosquero is a much smaller school and had only 6 players for their entire team), but Josh made 6 of those points. And they were actual baskets, not foul shots. He seems to be improving. His friend, Adam, who we brought home, even got to play the entire 4th quarter. They had a good time. I kind of feel for Mosquero, but I am sure that in a school that small, the chances of getting a really excellent player are really small. Friday, I slept in a bit, but then got up and took my shower, made the kids waffles and bacon for breakfast and then headed to the gym. I was working on my lesson after lunch when Sam reminded me he had a dental appointment. Ran over there and got that tooth taken care of. Got home and baked cookies, made pizza and watched "Clash of the Titans". The boys said we should dump the movie because it had a woman breast feeding her baby and wasn't very discreet about it. They just have no memories of watching me feed them at the same time. I'm afraid I wasn't very discreet at home either. Saturday we spent the day cleaning and scrubbing down the house before lunch. Started our fasts and tried to enjoy the rest of the day. The boys played outside for most of it but I called them in one at a time as I cut their hair. And of course, that leaves today, Sunday. I woke up with a headache, but I usually do when I am fasting. Josh gave the lesson for Family Home Evening, and it was pretty good. We have discovered a game to play on Sunday's. It is called Lifestories. Jay didn't want to play it again, but the kids begged him saying they learned things about him last week that they had never known before. So, he is relenting and we will play it again this week. As for Shayna, we got a call from her on Saturday. She has been nominated for the Homecoming Queen! There are 5 king nominations, and 5 queen nominations and you need at least 20 people to nominate you. That should be easy for her, she knows the whole art department, all of the football players, the cowboys, and the computer geeks. She says the other nominations for queen are all drop dead gorgeous types, so she feels like it is a joke, but she wants to play along for the fun of it. I told her that just because she is not some beauty queen doesn't mean it is a joke. People like her. She is fun to be around and do things with and she's funny. Her nomination has a list of hobbies and such, and I am sure there are a lot of people who may not know her, will read that and think, "wow, she sounds cool, maybe I'll vote for her". Her problem is finding a dress for this event. ( Luckily she will be inside since it is Homecoming for the basketball team, not football.) She says she will look around to borrow one from someone, let's just hope it is modest and not too lacy (she hates lace). Her escort will be whoever is voted in as king --if she wins, that is. Anyway, that was our week in a nutshell. Hope yours was pretty good and spent wisely. Keep Terry in your prayers so we hear good news on Thursday, but something tells me to expect the worse so when it turns out not so bad, I can be relieved. I love you, take care of yourself, your 4th, Lisa
