As I ponder the current brouhaha about gender identity, I am astounded at the hubris of people to redefine basic concepts that underpin life and society, usually for monstrously shallow reasons and with little thought for the wider ramifications of such redefinition.
This same accusation can be made in relation to a movement toward atheism as another example.
We keep goofing around (an I use that reference purposefully) with the underpinnings of life, just as an infant with a spoon digs up a Bedouin's tent stakes and has no clue of the havoc being caused by such innocent actions. Maddeningly, the ignorant are quite pointed and purposely un-innocent in tearing down what they see as "social constructs" that are likely also destroying the roots of life itself while congratulating themselves and their compatriots/sycophants.
I wish people could see the folly of such hubris and where it leads.
There is a certain existential threat that the nebulous "society" gives to those who wander too far from established orthodoxies - actions such as shunning. Governments can be manipulated by various forces to apply more pointed punishments, such as fines or jail time for new infractions or suspension/denial of contracts, where employers feel a need to become something of an ex-officious enforcers toward self-preservation.
